Nikola Špirić (father: Jovo), born Sept. 4, 1956, in Drvar, is the Prime Minister of Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH).
He graduated from a Sarajevo high school which specializes in electronics in 1975. Four years later he graduated and in 1982 got his M.A. from the Sarajevo School of Economics. In 1999, Špirić got his Ph. D. at the School of Economics in what was then called Srpsko Sarajevo. 
Špirić became involved in politics in 1993 and has been a member of three political parties. He is a currently a member of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), in power in the Republika Srpska (RS).
Between 1999 and 2002 he was a delegate and chairman of the House of Peoples of BiH Parliament. Between 2002 and 2006 he was a chairman and a vice-chairman in the BiH House of Representatives.
Špirić’s four-year term expires in 2010. He resigned from this post once, but was reelected.
His assets can be seen in three assets cards, one filed in 2002, one in 2006 before October elections, and one filed later that year. They vary widely.
In 2002, he reported that in 2001 he earned 26,536 KM in salary, 105,648 KM in honorariums and other income of 600 KM. He also reported driving a car that he valued at 20,000 KM and savings of €102,258  and 83,382 in Swiss Francs, as well as old (pre-war) foreign currency savings of 50,000 KM. He reported owning a 56-square-meter flat in Sarajevo and land and a part of a family house in Drvar.
At the time, he reported that his wife owned an apartment as well as a part of family house in Tuzla, €26,580 in savings and old (pre-war) foreign currency savings of 35,000 KM.
In 2006, his asset statement was brief. Špirić reported only that he owned an apartment and a car in BiH without specifying a location or type of car or values, while under the item sources of income he only stated he received salary and fees without specifying the amounts.
The same year Špirić was required to file another statement including assets. This one, however, was not public and was subject to review by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA).
It showed a greatly different picture of his assets. He reported savings of €378,300 and 18,140 KM. As the main source of this income, he listed his honorariums and the interest on his savings.
He listed his monthly salary at the time as 3,600 KM, which he broke down into a base salary of 2,359 KM, a fee for being a member of Parliament of 840 KM and an allowance for living away from home while in office of 400 KM.
He listed his property as including a 3-1/2 room apartment in Banja Luka, an apartment in Novi Sad with 2-1/2 rooms and an apartment in Belgrade with 2-1/2 rooms.
Špirić did not specify how many square-meter the apartments are or their value.
He reported that his son is listed as the owner of the Belgrade apartment.
Špirić stated he owned an Audi 6 and that his wife, Nada, owns an Audi 3.
Sarajevo Municipal Court registry records show another apartment under his and his wife’s (Nada) name, this one in Sarajevo, of 55-square-meter on Olimpijska street in the Mojmilo neighborhood.
Center for Investigative Reporting in Sarajevo (CIN) has obtained documents that show that Špirić also owns three garages in Banja Luka, one of 7 square meters, another of 9 square meters and the third of 15 square meters.
The Public Affairs Office of the BiH Council of Ministers reported to CIN that Špirić in 2008 earned 56,086 KM, which is 16,491 KM more than in 2007. The breakdown of his annual earnings was the base salary of 44,934 KM, meal allowance of 2,051 KM, allowance for living away from home while in office of 4,514 and vacation allowance of 586 KM.
While on his business visits in 2008, Špirić claimed 6,572 KM in per-diems. In 2007, he got 3,555 KM of per-diems. He did not charge per-diems for in-country travel.
Špirić and his wife, Nada, have a daughter, Jovana, and a son, Aleksandar.
